Self-access around the world

The self-Access Centre at Soochow University (Waishuanghsi Campus) in Taipei, Taiwan.
   

       

             

Institution
The Waishuanghsi Campus of Soochow University has 6,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students studying of Arts, Sciences, and Foreign Languages and Cultures.

Students
Undergraduate students are required to take Freshmen English and Sophomore English. During their third and fourth years of undergraduate studies, non-language majors are not required to receive any classroom-based foreign language training, including English.

Purpose
Many students visit the SAC as part of a language lesson or are directed there to do an assignment. Many come on their own in order to prepare for future careers or study overseas.

Features Student helpers work in the SAC. Frequent workshops and talks are held. Self-help group learning scheme encourages groups of learners to take charge of their learning.

Facilities and materials
4800 English language learning items - both commercial and in-house materials - including English, Japanese, German, French and Spanish.  Learners also have access to satellite TV and the Internet. Computer-based learning programs available via the Intranet.
